Weekend Writing
How are the papers going so far? Have you made recourse to the thesis workshop worksheet for your second papers? Are you finding it easier or harder to engage in a writing process that is more solitary? Are any of you working together this weekend? Is the reading of Maus providing a break in the tension or are the demands piling up? How are you doing, what are you thinking about?

I'm finding the intelligent opposition and circumvention aspects especially helpful because they don't only pertain to the thesis rather, they permeate throughout the essay.
I thought our workshop was quite helpful in constructing a strong thesis, though honestly it was a bit tedious. (I actually ended up scrapping the thesis I wrote in class and decided to write my paper on Hecuba instead.) In any case, the process has definitely made me more aware of possible points of weakness where opposing arguments could find a foothold in my own. I find myself being more meticulous with my wording so as to not make a claim I don't mean to make, but this also means that writing this paper has become somewhat of a painful process (but will probably rewarding at the end). It would be nice to have someone to discuss things with, which was what I found most useful about the workshop, but I suppose that's why we have the peer review process afterwards.
As for Maus... I can only hope I'll have it read by Tuesday.
Writing the Precis for Maus and doing it for my essay is causing me to hesitate on writing both. I thought it would be easier to write my essay on something I was already going to be reading closely but now all i can think about when writing my precis is whether i should not include it in the precis since it may be included there as well. Also regret reading the second volume of Maus before i wrote my precis for the first because now i notice things in the first that may not make sense unless you read the second half as well.
I suppose mine will be a different, more colloquial response in contrast to the ones above, but I'm thinking it's "alright." Not necessarily because of the actual writing itself, it's just that I have a case briefing to write too, and it's my first one so I'm scared :/. I like how open-ended your questions are, because they seem to dangerously invite one's true feelings into the realm of possible responses...
This is taking me longer than expected.... I blame problem sets but I luckily won't be printing it out 10 minutes before class starts and sprinting over. Maus was fun I like that you gave us something fun to read to distract us from our papers appreciate it prof.
I didn't find Maus to be any fun at all.. i wept my way through several pages, but I agree that it was an interesting and provoking reading. My essay will be done soon, but I'm still having problems with thinking and writing in English instead of Danish.. let's see if it makes any sense at the end of the day. For You that'll be doing the peer editing, don't hesitate in correcting silly spelling mistakes and grammar.. Even though I read my paper (even out loud) it's hard for me to find and eventually correct things... But hey, thats part of why I'm taking this class - learning by doing. /Pernille
lulz I use the word fun for anything I enjoy or find interesting.
